چکیده
Conventional polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) films have been successful as electrically-switchable screens for privacy applications. However, spatial patterning of the so to generate a visually appealing design, logo, or image typically requires intricate fabrication processes, such use prefabricated photomasks that do not allow on-demand designs. Herein is reported on and characterization spatially patterned PDLC “pixels” using drop-on-demand inkjet printing, it demonstrated how these materials can be used form new generation smart windows consist embedded images company logos, which made disappear with application voltage. Following refinements material rheology subsequent deposition individual droplets, arrays pixels are printed at resolution 250 per inch an pixel size 130 µm operating electric field strength (E) E = 1.4 V μm−1. Finally, approach developed herein, arranged college emblem within window

Dynamics of polymer-dispersed cholesteric liquid crystals
We have studied the electrooptic properties of droplets of cholesteric liquid crystal dispersed in a polymer. Application of AC electric fields to the droplets leads to a conversion of the droplet from a nonreflecting to a selectively reflecting appearance. When the field is suddenly
متن کاملTheory of polymer-dispersed cholesteric liquid crystals.
A mean field theory is presented to describe cholesteric phases in mixtures of a polymer and a cholesteric liquid crystal. Taking into account an anisotropic coupling between a polymer and a liquid crystal, we examine the helical pitch, twist elastic constant, and phase separations. Analytical expressions of the helical pitch of a cholesteric phase and the twist elastic constant are derived as ...
متن کاملPhase separation of polymer-dispersed liquid crystals on a chemically patterned substrate.
The surface-induced structure formation of polymer-dispersed liquid crystals (PDLCs) on a chemically patterned substrate was studied for the first time. The patterns on the substrate were successfully transferred to the PDLC film, resulting in alternating LC-rich and polymer-rich phases. This simple approach offers a new means of organizing micrometer-sized LC domains into well-ordered structur...
متن کاملElectrically switchable cylindrical Fresnel lens based on holographic polymer-dispersed liquid crystals using a Michelson interferometer
Fabricating an electrically switchable cylindrical Fresnel lens based on holographic polymer-dispersed liquid crystals (H-PDLC) using a Michelson interferometer is reported. Simplicity of the method and possibility of fabricating different focal length lenses in a single set up are among the advantages of the method. It is demonstrated that the Fresnel structured zone plate acts as a cylindrica...
متن کاملAnalysis of Polymer-Dispersed Liquid Crystals by Infrared Spectroscopy
FT-IR microspectroscopy is used to compare the polymer and liquid crystal droplet regions within polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) films. Thermoplastic polymer matrix PDLCs contain a higher amount of liquid crystal within the polymer regions than do thermoset polymer matrix films. IR functional group images of a droplet show characteristic textures corresponding to the visual images of th...
